Popis: | A magnetic helicity conserving mean‐field Ohm’s law is used to study bootstrapped tokamaks with oscillating field current drive. The Ohm’s law leads to the conclusion that the tokamak bootstrap effect can convert the largely alternating current of oscillating field current drive into a direct toroidal plasma current. This plasma current rectification is due to the intrinsically nonlinear nature of the tokamak bootstrap effect, and suggests that it may be possible to maintain the toroidal current of a tokamak reactor by supplementing the bootstrap current with oscillating field current drive. Steady‐state tokamak fusion reactors operating with oscillating field current drive could provide an alternative to tokamak reactors operating with external current drive. |
