Popis: Changes in natural radiation level on selected sites on beaches of the island of Texel, The Netherlands, were measured simultaneously with changes in beach elevation. It was found that radiometric mapping provides a sensitive method for studying sand transport phenomena. Results show a selective transport for wind and water driven transport of sand which can at least qualitatively be understood from rather simple microscopic models of sedimentation and removal along with a simplified model of radiation absorption. The method demonstrated for a linear grid spacing of 2 m should, according to the data, still yield valuable information for grid spacings of about 25 m.
