The low temperature structures reported for the rhombohedral C14 type derivative ZrCr 2 D 3.8 [Irodova & Suard, J. Alloys Comp. 299 (2000) 32–38] and the monoclinic C15 type derivatives ZrV 2 D x ( x =2.18, 1.94, 1.48, 1.18) and HfV 2 D 1.92 [Irodova & Suard, J. Alloys Comp. 291 (1999) 184–189] are found to be centrosymmetric rather than non-centrosymmetric. New structure refinements based on the original neutron diffraction data collected at 100 K yield more consistent results and significantly different deuterium atom distributions.
