Operation of high-flux solar receivers requires an accurate knowledge of the temperature distribution on the absorber. For absorbers at high temperatures the emitted radiation is the most convenient probe of the temperature, provided the emissivity of the absorber is known. In this paper we outline a procedure to measure simultaneously the temperature, irradiance and emissivity distribution on hot, irradiated absorbers. We present results achieved on samples in the laboratory and at the solar furnace at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). We then sketch a scheme which allows the application of this technique to volumetric absorbers. |
