A novel dihydrophenanthropyran, shanciol was isolated from tubers of Pleione bulbocodioides , together with the known compound bletilol B . The structure of the new compound was elucidated as 3-hydroxy-11-methoxy-2-(4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxy-phenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-4H-phenanthro[2,1- b ]pyran-8- ol on the basis of spectroscopic data and X-ray analysis. Furthermore, the absolute configurations of bletilol B were determined to be 11 S and 12 S by means of Horeau's partial resolution method and chemical correlations. |
