Although traditional stigmatization of women's sexuality has decreased in recent years, women are still less likely than men to achieve orgasm during sex, as seen in differing rates of men's (95%) and women's (69%) orgasm during their last partner-based sex encounter. Previous research has indicated that cannabis may act as an indirect sexual stimulant, but much of this research has focused on partner-sex rather than masturbation. By reducing barriers associated with shame and enhancing physiological sensations through psychoactive properties, the inclusion of cannabis allows women to feel a greater sense of relaxation and comfort with their sexual expression and pleasure. Using a counterbalanced quasi-experimental design, female participants were instructed to report on two separate masturbation sessions with and without cannabis use prior over a two-week period. We hypothesize that women will experience greater pleasure and orgasm quality while utilizing cannabis. |
