Popis: The transient characteristics of an experimental test rig consisting of a fixed solid iron stator and moving rotor, when subjected to a step input voltage, are measured. A three-dimensional finite-element scheme that takes into account the nonlinear magnetic properties, eddy-current effects, and the dynamic motion of the rotor was used to simulate the response of the rig. The measurements were used as a benchmark against which the simulation results were compared.
