Popis: THE “yellow clouds” observed telescopically on Mars have been attributed to wind-blown dust and the role of aeolian erosion and deposition in the development of Martian surface markings and topographic features has been considered1–5. Photographs from Mariners 6 and 7 have allowed a more direct and realistic approach to the questions thus raised and initial studies led to mention of suggested sites for aeolian effects, particularly in the Meridiani Sinus region6,7. Here I examine this region in greater detail with results that are applicable to interpretation of Mariner 9 photography.
