Twenty-four granular insecticide treatments were evaluated in 1993 for their efficacy in controlling western and northern corn rootworm larvae. The evaluation took place on a Hagerstown silt loam soil in central PA, near Rock Springs. The target corn plant population was 28,000 plants per acre. The test plots were planted on 14 May in continuous corn. The design was RCBD with 5 replicates. Plots were 40 ft long × 2 rows wide; the spacing between rows was 30 inches. Treatments were applied at planting using a Max Emerge John Deere 7000® corn planter. T-band applications were applied in 7 inch bands over the row and into the furrow ahead of the press wheel, and in-furrow applications were directed into furrow in front of the press wheel. Treatments were evaluated by quantifying root damage caused by larvae according to the ‘Iowa’ rating method, and by quantifying yield on 9 Nov. |
