Bio-inspired materials are emerging as a powerful tool to tackle significant technological problems, from biomedical engineering to green chemistry. In this review we demonstrate the possibilities offered by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance to the characterization and the mechanistic understanding of both the inorganic and the protein components of biosilica and bioinspired silica. |
