This chapter will describe in detail how to set up and construct an ileosigmoid anastomosis using suturing techniques. A brief discussion of the methods of mobilization of the colon in preparation for the anastomosis will be presented as well. Recognizing there are a variety of dissection tools and techniques, the primary focus of this chapter will be the reconstruction and how intracorporeal suturing skills can save sigmoid length, and, thereby, bowel function for the patient undergoing a subtotal colectomy. |
