Popis: Presidential libraries perform the character of American leadership; model particular performances of citizenship; and create different visions of the nation that shapes them both. The essay examines several sites of performance in two presidential libraries including the main exhibitions and their key omissions; the mode of travel encouraged by the museum's floor plan; the role of audiovisual media; the library building; and the museum site. It argues that the Reagan and Clinton libraries rehearse sharply contrasting models for American character, each with both useful and problematic implications for the citizen's role in public life.
