Popis: | After many years of neglect, we have started to invest our resources in the prevention and treatment of mental retardation. This has resulted in the rapid development of clinical programs which are built on foundations of fact and fiction. Some specialists in mental retardation still continue to play the role of "expert." Others are aware of our lack of knowledge and the need to reexamine a variety of clinical issues concerning the retarded. It is to the latter population that Dr. Philips' book is directed. The text consists of a series of readings, many of them papers presented at a symposium held in San Francisco, in November 1964. Additional material has been added in order to provide a multidisciplinary view of the clinical problems we face in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of the retarded. The authors included in the volume represent subspecialties in the fields of biology, chemistry |
