Popis: | Publisher Summary This chapter explains that after extracranial-intracranial arterial bypass operation (EIAB) for cerebral ischemia, the qEEG follow-up studies is made before and after revascularization. Peak frequencies within the alpha band and different hemispheric asymmetry parameters are calculated from centro-temporal EEG recordings and used for the assessment of postoperative changes in the bioelectrical brain activity. Increased peak frequency or decreased hemispheric asymmetry is defined as an improvement, and decreased peak frequency or increased asymmetry as deterioration of the brain function. Peak frequency asymmetry, bivariate frequency-theta/beta asymmetry, ERD (blocking response because of the movement)-theta/beta asymmetry and the multiparametric asymmetry score (MAS) based on the parameters theta/beta, peak frequency, absolute delta and theta power and ERD, are used and compared before and after surgery. Both the multiparametric asymmetry score and the simple peak frequency measurement of the sensimotor (mu) rhythm are sensitive qEEG parameters, and are therefore suitable for follow-up studies after EIAB and perhaps also for detecting minor changes in the localized brain function because of the revascularization surgery. |
