Popis: This paper uses analytical technique to assess the adequacy of generation systems using the Ghana power system as a case study. The generation system adequacy assessment provides effective information on the generation/load balance at any point in time. The recursive technique was used to construct the capacity outage probability table to represent the generation model. The Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) and Loss of Load Expectation (LOLE) indices were determined. The impact of changing system peak on the LOLP and LOLE also was investigated. A Generation System Adequacy Assessment program was developed to undertake this study, and it tested favourably against the standard Roy Billinton Test System (RBTS). Thereafter, the adequacy of the Ghanaian power generation system was evaluated using the developed program, and the obtained results were of high practical significance. Beyond 2021, the generation system adequacy indices would seriously deteriorate, unless additional generating units are added.
