This paper proposes a study of the influence of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current Transmission) ground electrode current on neutral grounding network equipment. Unidimensional finite element method (FEM) coupled with three dimensional FEM are used for calculate the potential distributing in the soil that around the ground electrode. In order to quantify the effect of the DC potential difference on neutral grounding network equipment, an equivalent transformer model is first presented by taking into account the ferromagnetic hysteresis theory. Simulations indicate that because of the direct current magnetic bias, the neutral grounding transformer draws a large asymmetrical exciting current. It results in increased reactive power consumption, increased magnetic leakage, and the generation of noises and so on. The application of the proposed model to a test system shows its validity.
