Popis: An automated one-way avoidance procedure was used to study the effect of platform exposure duration on the acquisition of an avoidance response. Rats were required to jump onto a raised platform at one end of the chamber either to avoid or escape a footshock preceded by a buzzer. The platform was made unavailable to the rat when the movable sliding wall closed and covered the platform. The duration of the interval the rat was allowed to remain on the exposed platform was varied. Acquisition of the avoidance response was shown to be a function of the platform exposure duration.
