SummaryA mixed passive hemagglutination (MPHA) test using indicator cells with anti-Ig activity was established for detection of antibodies of different classes against cell surface antigens as well as soluble antigens. This procedure was shown to be a simple and sensitive binding assay for both cell surface antigens and soluble antigens attached to a solid phase. By means of this assay HLA class I antigens, a new platelet alloantigen (Yuka), and major blood group antigens were demonstrated on platelet monolayers and/or soluble antigens released from platelets. This test was shown to be useful for crossmatching of platelet transfusions. IgG class antibodies directed to L-asparaginase in sera of patients who received this agent for therapeutic purposes and rheumatoid factors of IgM, IgG, and IgA classes in rheumatoid arthritis sera were also demonstrated. |
