More electrically powered aircraft reveals some significant advantages such as weight decrease, reduced maintenance requirements and increased reliability and passenger comfort. However, the power transformers as essential components in the future aircraft can be suffering from transient inrush currents which are several times of the rated value. Inrush current test is becoming an indispensable task in the validation/verification phase of More Electric Aircraft design process. A physical modeling approach to describe the inrush current characteristics of power transformers have been proposed in this paper. Based on the physical models of power transformers, comprehensive studies of inrush current such as sympathetic phenomenon can be conveniently performed by using simulation frameworks like Dymola. |
