Popis: Summary The present paper pertains to the in vitro and in vivo studies on cross infection between nine cephaline gregarines and eight tenebrionid insects. In vitro studies showed that out of sporocysts of nine cephaline gregarines only five were able to release their sporozoites in the gut-fluid of five species of unnatural insects. These gregarines were tried for cross infection, in vivo, against the corresponding insects. In vivo studies revealed that sporocysts released the sporozoites in the lumen of some insects. However, the sporozoites released were unable to establish and develop further in the lumen of the recepient insects, other than their natural hosts. This indicates that they are specific to their hosts. The possible reasons for the fialure of parasites’ establishment in the target insects are discussed.
