Popis: |
Esophagus is a long muscular passageway connecting the pharynx to the stomach. The opening and end of the esophagus are guarded by the upper and lower esophageal sphincters respectively. The passage of food along the esophagus is by the peristaltic movement of the muscular wall of esophagus coordinated by the parasympathetic input from the vagal nerve. Blockage of venous returns in cirrhotic liver opens up portal systemic anastomosis at the esophageal-gastric junction at the diaphragm to form varices and may be ruptured. The esophagus is developed from the foregut together with the respiratory system. Abnormal development of esophagus and respiratory tract leads to congenital abnormalities including esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula. |
