Popis: Ross Forests are family-owned forestland located in Hardin County, Tennessee. There are nine different tracts situated on the Western Highland Rim physiographic area of middle Tennessee that total 7750 acres (3136 hectares). From 1975 to 2005, a major portion of the forest was managed under a long-term lease for pulpwood production with a local paper mill. The present owner began the process in 2002 of including recreation, wildlife, non-game, and biodiversity objectives. A new management plan was written in 2009 under the Environmental Quality Incentive Program Forest Habitat Fund by the Tennessee Division of Forestry and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and completed with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. This plan was built using a personal geo-database through computer software developed in Microsoft Access and Environmental Systems Research Institute software. This case study describes the software and the advantages and problems presented by moving to automated plan writer systems.
