Popis: There has been a rapid boost in the establishment of single-cell omics technologies, especially with the advent of lab-on-chip and microfluidic devices that have not only provided us with alternatives for more conventional and costly methods but have also served in developing new procedures for single-cell studies and their comparative analysis. These single-cell studies have hence opened new research dimensions in which cellular heterogeneity has become the central hallmark of research in single-cell omics procedures. With the emergence of cell-based tools for drug discovery and delivery, and with the advent of high-throughput drug screening platforms, it is now possible to explore new treatment options for diseases with complex biology. In particular, single-cell omics tools have unraveled the heterogeneity in cancer by exploring single-cell dynamics and are being used to hunt for more targeted therapeutic targets for drug discovery and development. This chapter focuses on a review of single-cell omics technologies and their application using microfluidic platforms to create a roadmap towards personalized medicine.
