Popis: | The radiology quality criteria concept of the European Union is intended to ensure good radiodiagnostic care in the member states. The lack of proper correlation between image quality and radiation dose in clinical practice is acknowledged. The aim is (a) to define the image quality needed for diagnosis, (b) to establish a reference dose that should normally not be exceeded and (c) to improve the correlation between image quality and dose by suggesting imaging parameters. The basic concept - initially intended mainly for chest and spine - has been expanded to include mammography and CT as these modalities have become responsible for an increasing share of the medical radiation exposure. The EU criteria described need to be integrated into large, regularly repeated regional and supra-regional surveys to become effective on a population scale. However, they may also provide help in hospital-wide projects. |
