Popis: | The resistance of the California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii (Mask.), to hydrocyanic acid is a matter of practical as well as theoretical interest. Certain strains have become highly resistant to this fumigant, whereas other strains show no such resistance. It is evident from genetic studies that resistance is inherited, but there are no discernible morphological characteristics in which the resistant and nonresistant strains differ. Physiological differences between the strains must be the basis of variations in resistance to hydrocyanic acid. It is the purpose of this work to elucidate the nature of these differences. |
