Popis: | Techniques have been discussed for the immobilization of yeast and bacterial cells through adhesion on glass and cellulosic surfaces such as cotton cloth and waste cotton thread using polyethylenimine (PEI). The cells could be made to adhere as a monolayer to these supports by treating either the cells or the support or both with 0.2% PEI (pH 7). The cells were found to adhere strongly and were not desorbed during continuous use or by extreme conditions of pH and ionic concentrations of the medium. The technique could also be used for the flocculation of the cells followed by adhesion and also for obtaining enzyme‐cell co‐immobilizates through adhesion. |
