Cross-track pulse shape and nonlinear loss as a function of frequency and side track erasure in perpendicular magnetic recording systems

Popis: | Many previous publications have shown signal amplitude of magnetic recording systems decrease as cross-track run-out or linear density increases. This study expands on this work by characterizing cross-track transition width (T50) and nonlinear partial erasure (NLPE) changes with linear density, read-back location, and track edge erasure. Both T50 and NLPE data shown in this paper were calculated from filtered odd harmonic amplitude cross-track profiles. This analysis is novel, in that it establishes a model which describes why NLPE and T50 change by read-back location, linear density, and track-edge erasure due to non-uniform first and third harmonic widths. |
