During the first decade of CT scanner development, continuous progress has been made in scanning speed and resolution. This trend is expected to continue in the next decade as new source and detector technologies are introduced. CT has the theoretical potential to eventually rival fluoroscopy in both dynamic speed and resolution. This paper discusses the recent progress in development of the CVCT scanner, a millisecond electron-beam device, intended for high-speed multislice CT. Extensive evaluations using an electron-beam testbed device illustrate the feasibility of this approach.© (1982) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
