One hundred and five neonates with pneumonia, sepsis and meningitis clinically diagnosed were studied in Neonatology Department of Beijing Children’s Hospital (BCH). Etiologic diagnosis was confirmed by blood/CSF culture, and/or antigen detection (Co-agglutination). Of the 105 cases, 27 cases with GBS infections were diagnosed. There were 18 episodes of early onset diseases (EOD) and 9 late onset diseases (LOD). Clinical features of them were analysed. Respiratory symptoms and signs (apnea, cyanosis, tachypnea, chest retraction, etc) were major clinical presentations for GBS pneumonia and more severe than other pathogenic pneumonia. Systemic toxic symptoms of GBS sepsis were more serious than others. Case fatality rates for the patients with GBS infections were 11.1% for LOD and 27.8% for EOD, which were lower than that caused by E. coli K1 (57.1%) and higher than that caused by other pathogens (4.2%). |
