Popis: Increased application of workpiece fixtures at machining and introduction of computer-aided systems of fixture design call for the development of a new methodology for locating error determination. Generation of data for locating schemes is closely linked with locating error calculation. This is particularly important in cases where the locating error depends on the part dimension obtained at the previous machining operation. The paper focuses on the matters of locating error estimation at machining. The methodology of locating error determination at machining using dimensional chains is suggested. It enables generation of metric models of the workpieces. In accordance with the proposed dimensional chain method, all the locating charts are divided into two categories. These categories are: the locating charts for workpiece loose placement in the fixture and the locating charts for workpiece zero-clearance placement in the fixture. The application of the dimensional chain method allows to determine locating error for every locating chart and to take into account the impact of pre-treatment machining operations.
