Since invention of motor vehicles, the desire to know which machine is the fastest, more powerful and easy to use has been inherent to humans. This competitive nature created the need to develop instruments to measure the capabilities of vehicles through speed, distance and time to have a good comparison between competitors, especially on a rally, which are races with special requirements that need to be met, such as complete a route between control points on a specific time. This work focus on speed and distance measurement through a sensor connected to the wheel, counting each turn and calculating them according the time elapsed. It is an embedded software for ARM devices with 5 inches touch screen and a user-friendly interface making easier to get information for co-pilot and give proper instructions to the driver, who is under high temperatures for 3 to 4 h leading to great stress during speed races. The software is validated following use cases where the test steps are described, these are explained in a general way in this work and the results are explained. The failures are corrected and explained, and a final test is done on a real car with a correct measure of distance and speed. |
