Popis: A simulation framework for dielectric design of high voltage devices has been presented. It is based on a simplified modeling of discharge characteristics including propagation path, breakdown and inception voltages. A 3-stage procedure of evaluating surface charging as well as the numerical formulation of saturation charge boundary condition have been explained. The results of surface charging for a case study with an insulating barrier and the discharge evaluation for a complex gas insulated switchgear arrangement have been presented as application examples.
