Interaction with robots is rapidly becoming commonplace across societal domains. Whether vacuuming robots in the household, industrial robots in the workplace, or military robots in combat, there are now more opportunities increasing for people to encounter, and work with, robots. This proliferation of robots throughout society requires an understanding of the factors that lead people to trust them. To this end, the following chapter explores the effect of trust on human-robot interaction. It describes the currently identified antecedents of trust and emphasizes a relatively new and under-explored category of trust antecedent: time. |
