Popis: One of the most interesting groups of soil microorganisms fixing atmospheric nitrogen are Azospirillum bacteria. They live in association with roots of many plants affecting their yields (Boddey et al., 1986; Boddey and Dobereiner, 1988; Chalk, 1991). Although the above-mentioned bacteria occur in soils of various climatic zones, they best develop in a tropical climate (Krieg and Dobereiner, 1986). Possibilities of practical application of these bacteria in conditions of temperate climate require isolation of strains characterized by a definite, high N2-fixing activity as well as recognition of their response to different factors which may exert an influence during the process of plant production; among others fertilization or plant protection compounds.
