This paper describes one of the national smart grid related activities of Japan, “Demonstration Projects for Next Generation Optimum Control of Power Transmission and Distribution Network (NG-TDN)” which deals with issues associated with mass integration of photovoltaic power generation systems. The NG-TDN project, targeting to provide technical solutions to the issues of massive PV integration, has four groups: Group 1 of Methodology for optimum allocation and control of voltage regulating devices, Group 2 of Development of highperformance power electronic devices for distribution networks, Group 3 of Methodology for optimum control of customer’s equipment according to demand-supply balance, and Group 4 of Methodology for optimum operation scheduling and control of power network considering cooperation with customers. This paper presents the results of the project focusing on the harmonization between distributed energy management (Group 3) and centralized energy management (Group 4) so as to enhance the value of PV generation through shifting electricity load of residential houses.
