This chapter describes, in a general way, the main topics related to the distribution of precipitation in Mexico, while considering its climatic, hydrological, and geographical aspects. First, the distribution of precipitation within Mexico is described and how the resulting water is managed within the hydrologic administrative regions (HARs). In the following sections, the main climatic phenomena having a direct impact on the precipitation regime within the territory, such as the Mexican monsoon, El Nino, and tropical cyclones, are considered. Finally, main issues of concern related to precipitation, namely, droughts and the actual situation and future scenarios related to climate change in Mexico are addressed. |
