Popis:	The Maier–Saupe theory is one of the most successful descriptions of the liquid crystalline state. While Saupe is a familiar name in liquid crystal research, his doctoral supervisor Wilhelm Maier is lesser known. We still remember Wilhelm Maier, even 100 years after his birth.
