Popis: The spool piece design for the standard arc half-cell of the Superconducting Super Collider collider ring is an electromechanical system which performs a variety of tasks. The components provide conditioning and control of the cryogenics and electrical bus routing and protection; they also accommodate the beam position monitor and corrector magnet families, vacuum separation, and connection points for control and instrumentation. The design uses unique locations for each component, mixing form and function in a limited amount of allocated length in the standard 90 m half-cell. This paper describes the purpose and positioning of the various components and the assembly sequence required to achieve these space constraints.
