The surface-enhanced Raman spectra of 4-methylpyridine adsorbed on a silver electrode were investigated. A ratio of intensities, given by the intensity of each Raman band divided by the sum of the intensities of all the bands in the same spectrum, was defined in order to cancel out the surface concentration effect. This ratio was plotted versus applied potential and exciting radiation for several vibrational modes. The representation so obtained shows more clearly the modulation produced in the SERS by the molecular vibrations. as compared with the usual Raman intensity representation. The results are tentatively interpreted on the basis of a charge-transfer mechanism. |
