Popis: A hydrogen atmosphere flame ionization detector (HAFID) whlch is sensltlve to metail-contalnlng compounds Is compared wlth a tradltlonal flame ionization detector (FID) whlch Is sensitive to carbon-contcilning compounds for the determination of organotins. It WiBS found that the HAFID Is not signlficantiy more sensitive for tin compounds than the FID. Its prlncipal advantage over the FID Is that It has a tremendous selectivity against hydrocarbons, which permits the determination of small quantlties of organotlns in the presence of large quantities of organic material. Selectivlty of the HAFID was found to be a funcitlon of the temperature of the precombustion zone of the fllame where an organlc compound Is apparently oxidized prior to entering the flame, reducing its lonlzation efflclency In the flame. Example chromatograms of responses In the two tletectors are shown for the analysis of marlne palnt for bls(tr1butyltin) oxlde (TBTO) and of apple tree leaves for trlphenyltin hydroxide (Duter) and tricyclohexyltin hydroxide (Pllctran).
