Popis: Theoretical and experimental studies show that the gyrotron is the most effective and powerful version of the cyclotron resonance maser (CRM). Efficiencies up to 50% for oscillators and up to 70% for amplifiers have been achieved. The CW power of gyrotrons amounts up to 22 kW at 2-mm wavelength and to 1.5 kW at 0.9-mm wavelength; the power of gyrotrons in 10−4 sec duration pulses exceeds one megawatt at wavelengths longer than 3 mm. Realization of the relativistic electron beam CRM and the solid state CRM are the main physical problems in the field now.
