Popis: | (1) The effects of low or high potassium on the canine heart were investigated. Excessively low or high concentrations of potassium solutions were used in the experiments. The ionic concentrations, except that of potassium, were approximately the same as those in serum of normal animals.(2) Surface and intracellular electrographic changes caused by low or high potassium were described in detail.(3) Relationship between surface and intracellular electrographic changes in the repolarization and resting phases was studied by calculating the correlation coefficients and obtaining the regression equation. It was thus observed that the changes of the ST segment, T wave and TQ level produced by low or high potassium were proportional to the corresponding changes in the intracellular electrograms.(4) A reciprocal change was observed in the surface electrogram recorded from the region supplied with normal blood when another region was supplied with low or high potassium solution.(5) It is proposed that the changes of the ST segment and the T wave are the same in their origins. |
