Popis: | Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction in patients with spinal cord lesions is not a static, but a dynamic process. Therefore, urodynamic controls in specialized centres are mandatory to prevent renal damage and to preserve quality of life. From the patient’s perspective, bladder management is well tolerated if it is easily integrated in daily life activities and if it secures continence. From the standpoint of a neurourologist, the protection of the upper urinary tract is the major goal to be achieved. By applying the standards of modern neurourological diagnosis and treatment, hardly any patient will suffer from severe renal damage. In the future, preservation of health-related quality of life will be our main goal[36]. Neurophysiologic rehabilitation of bladder function may play an important part in this strategy. |
