INTRODUCTION Halfway through the financial year and the District Health Authority pressure relief aid budget £70,000 overspent. The whole of the total cost is accounted for by the hire of airfluidised and low air loss beds used in the treatment of 0.6% of inpatients. Our pressure sore register shows that 11% of patients have had sores and a further 13% have been at risk during this period. Luckily, over the years, the district has built up a supply of Pegasus beds, large celled Ripple beds and Spenco overlays, or the vast majority of patients would have had a very poor deal. However, this equipment also requires outlay on servicing/ replacement to ensure it is maintained in working order. |
