Popis: Dermal application of actives aims at delivering the active to the desired place of action, typically to the deeper layers of the skin. Passive diffusion is the main driving force of absorption into the skin, and a main prerequisite for effective passive diffusion is a sufficient amount of dissolved active within the formulation, because only dissolved molecules can be taken up. Many cosmetic and cosmeceutical actives possess poor solubility and can therefore not be delivered to the skin by classical formulation approaches. One of the modern and most powerful strategies to overcome poor solubility is the use of nanocrystals, which are addressed in this chapter.
