Temperature Dependence of the Infrared Properties of SmB6

Popis: Infrared reflectivity measurements on a single crystal of SmB6 have been performed over the energy range from 1.5 to about 1000 meV at temperatures between 4.2 and 300 K. Standard Kramers-Kronig analysis has been made to receive the optical conductivity from measured reflectivity data. The resultant spectra show an increase of optical conductivity in the far-infrared region indicating a semiconductor-metal transition at finite temperature. In particular, we have found that the energy gap of SmB6 decreases with increasing temperature and vanishes at approximately 40 K.
