Study of failure of beryllium crystals on the basal plane

Popis: 1. For single crystals of 99.5% pure beryllium, we have measured the angular dependence of σ, σf, and τf and have compared the results obtained with existing models of failure on the (0001) plane. The experimental results agree best with the Stroh-Friedel model of failure. The value of γ (0001) at 77°K is 750 ergs/cm2. 2. The value of σf falls continuously with rise in temperature of testing, and the deformation before failure increases in steps at T>600°K. At T=643°K, e=360%.
