Popis: This paper reports the isolation of mixed ligand complexes of the type MAL, where M = Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) A = 8-quinolinol(HQUIN) and L = amino acid (glycine-HL' or aspartic acid-H2L'). The complexes of Ni(II) and Cu(II) are coloured and insoluble in common organic solvents. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of magnetic, electronic and IR spectroscopy. Electronic spectra, in conjunction with magnetic moments, are in accord with an octahedral environment around the central metal ion in all metal chelates except the Zn(II) and Cd(II) chelates. All chelates are paramagnetic except the Zn(II) and Cd(II) compounds which are found to be diamagnetic. A study of the thermal properties and antimicrobial activity of the complexes has also been carried out.
