Popis: | Use of plant metabolites as remedial measures is an age-old concept. It is evident that rising biotic and abiotic stress is exacerbating health problems. The polyphenols, a large family of bioactive phytometabolites with high chemical diversity, abundance in plants used as food and fodder, fruits, berries, nuts and beverages, can hopefully assist in health management. Utilizing plant polyphenols as alternative therapeutics to prevent infectious diseases, prevent nonmelanoma cancer, and alleviate effects of climatic stress should be a prioritized area of research. This chapter presents a critique of some basic mechanisms, advances, and the challenges associated with the use of polyphenols as complementary therapy in skin care and health. |
