Functionalized bioconductive polymers have numerous applications, such as in chemical and biochemical sensors, actuators, plastic optoelectronics, liquid crystal display devices, transistors, nerve repair conduits, microsurgical tools, antimicrobial properties, and electrodes in batteries. Carboxylic acid−functionalized polypyrrole can be used as coatings of electrodes or neural probes and as scaffolds to induce tissue regeneration. Amino acid−functionalized polypyrrole used in nanomedicine and functionalized polyanilines are useful in the fabrication of sensor devices. Sulfanilic acid fPANIs appear to be a new source of antibiofilm compounds, which could be used separately or in different combinations with of antimicrobials to develop novel biocomposities that are useful for microbial biofilms. In this chapter, we have discussed different type of functionalized bioconductive polymers and their applications. |
